Due to the spread of COVID-19, LAIS shifted to online live classes using Zoom from April school-wide (from Kinder (2 years old) to high school).
Even during the period of avoiding outings in Tokyo, students' learning never stops.
・Kindergarten (2 years old-): 9:30-12:00
・Primary School (Y1-Y6): 9:30-15:30
・Secondary School (Y7-13): Schedule according to the conventional timetable
The educational tools currently used by LAIS are as follows:
Zoom- Online live class. P.E., Music, and Art are held in live classes.

Seesaw- Digital communication platform. Students upload presentations and other work as videos and photos and communicate with teachers.
Learning A-Z- Online library. The school library is physically closed. However, students are free to read a wide variety of books using this app (note that we have also decided to open the LAIS library so that students can borrow books on Friday afternoon for a limited period of time).
Prodigy- Online gamification-based teaching software for Math in primary school
This transition will need to continue according to the policies of the Japanese Government and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government until the new announcement of reopening the school is made some time in the future.
The full-scale transition to online live classes was not something we had prepared for from before. We made decisions on these full-scale preparations in April and started the spring semester on April 6th in time. We could not do this without the united efforts of the faculty and staff of LAIS as well as the understanding and cooperation of parents.
Especially for online classes, the younger the students, the more ingenuity of teachers and cooperation of parents are required. School Closure may continue for some time. LAIS will continue to overcome the challenges created by COVID-19 and will not cancel student learning because of the virus.
